Ralph Cleveland, Sr. Funeral Held Tuesday Afternoon

Ralph Cleveland, 63, died at the Clarion hospital Sunday morning. He had been in poor health for some time and was taken to the Clarion hospital Saturday following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist church in Eagle Grove, in charge of the pastor Rev. Howard Church. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery.

Mr. Cleveland is survived by his wife, two sons, Richard and Ralph Jr. of Eagle Grove, his mother, Mrs. Ina Cleveland, one brother, Sidney E. Cleveland of San Bernardino, Calif., two sisters, Mrs. Homer Lyons of Goldfield and Mrs. James Miles of Columbia, Mo. and three grandsons.

Obituary

Ralph Earl Cleveland Sr., son of Charles and Ina Cleveland was born in Wright county on July 11, 1899. He died after a lengthy illness at the Community Memorial hospital Clarion at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. He was 63 years, 5 months and 28 days of age at the time of his passing. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Dec. 11th at the First Baptist Church at Eagle Grove. Howard Church, pastor, with interment at Glenwood cemetery of Goldfield.

His entire life was spent in Goldfield. Early in his youth he became a member of the Goldfield Baptist church where he attended all his life. Ralph Earl Cleveland Sr. was united in marriage to Pearl Kassner on Nov. 26, 1919 at the Baptist parsonage in Goldfield. To this union were born twin sons: Richard of Goldfield and Ralph Jr. of Eagle Grove. His occupation was that of railroad fireman on both the Chicago North Western and the Chicago Great Western. He loved people and it is said, "that he never knew anyone to be a stranger." He was interested in sports particularly hunting.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles S. Cleveland.

He is survived by his wife Pearl B., also their sons: Richard and Ralph Jr., his mother, Mrs. Ina Cleveland of Goldfield. One brother Sidney E. Cleveland of San Bernardino, Calif. Two sisters Ruth, (Mrs. Homer Lyons) of Goldfield and Margie, (Mrs. James Miles) of Columbia, Mo. also three grandsons Dennis, Roger and Dean of Eagle Grove. Other relatives and a host of friends.

Ralph was a friendly person, good conversationalist and displayed a good sense of humor but always in keeping with wholesome morals based upon Christian conviction, which he lived.
