Merrion Lorimer “Whit” Whittier
22 January 1907 --- 6 September 1990M. L. "Whit" Whittier was born in Chicago, Ill., and raised in Eagle Grove. He was a longtime resident of Bremerton, Wash. He wintered in the Desert Area of California and summered in Port Hadlock, Wash. for over 18 years.
He was an electronic engineer for the Department of the Navy, Bremerton Navy Shipyard, and retired in 1972 with 30 years of Federal Service.
He was a member of Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, Los Angeles, Calif.; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, San Bernardino; Yoch Rite, Pt. Townsend, Wash.; Steadfast Masonic Lodge No. 216, F&M, Bremerton, Wash.; Palm Desert Shrine Club, Palm, Desert, Calif.; Post 68, American Legion, Bremerton, Wash.; Eagles, Bremerton; BPO Elks Lodge, Pt. Townsend, Wash.; 32 Degree Mason; Member of U.S. Naval Crypolotogic Veterans Assn.; Chevy Chase Golf Club, Pt. Townsend, Wash.; amateur radio operator for 71 years; and a direct descendant of John Greenleaf Whittier. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II in Alaska, and in the Korean Conflict.
M. L. "Whit" Whittier, 83, Thousand Palms, Calif., died September 6, 1990 at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, Thousand Palms; a daughter, Therese Marie, Columbia Falls, Mont.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, October 30 from the Wiefels & Son chapel with the Masonic Orders, Elks Lodge Eagles, and the American Legion officiating. Interment will be private. The Wiefels & Son mortuary, Palm Springs, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.
