The sad and shocking ending of the life of Carl Agard, of this place, was much regretted by the entire population. It ought to serve both at a warning and an example to the young men and boys who are in the habit of playing with the twin demons, whiskey and cigarettes. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the broken hearted and bereaved mother who has spent her life in the interests of her family. Carl Agard died last Friday morning of alcoholism, aged twenty-seven.
Rev. Hoelscher conducted the funeral ceremony, which was held at the house at 3:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial in the River Side cemetery.
Carl was a good-hearted, congenial and fine-looking young man, and the universal expression is the regret that such a life should be ruined by these deadly habits.
