Mary Boyer Hallock Dies Saturday, Sept. 6

Mrs. Mary Boyer Hallock, wife of County Treasurer H. B. Hallock, died at her home in Clarion Saturday morning. The entire county extends to the bereaved husband and other relatives sincerest sympathy in the hour of their great sorrow.

Concerning Mrs. Hallock's passing, the Monitor carried the following obituary:

Mary Boyer Hallock
Mary Josephine Dawson was born Feb. 15, 1868, near Tipton, Cedar county, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 6, 1930, at her home in Clarion. The family came to Wright county when she was but two years of age, locating upon the farm in Grant township. She lived there almost continuously until she reached womanhood. She attended the country school and later attended the Tilford academy in Vinton. She was united in marriage to William Boyer in 1891. Two children were born to this union, a daughter, Mrs. Lenore Vallie, of Hastings, Minn., and a son, Clark, of San Antonio, Tex. Mrs. Boyer taught various schools in Wright county, both before and after her marriage, covering a period between the ages of seventeen and fifty years. She was extremely fond of children and the young people and was a very successful teacher. She became a church member early in life, and, like her Master, whom she served, went about doing good. She was a living example of the highest type of Christian character.

Her cheerful nature radiated an agreeable personality and she appreciated the joys of living, while disappointments were borne with hushed modesty and patience. She was ever sacrificing for her loved ones and was extremely thoughtful and mindful of acquaintances. Few persons had a wider circle of friends.

She was married April 26, 1930, to H. B. Hallock and a contemplated happy old age was cut short after only four months of happy congenial companionship. In addition to a kind and devoted husband, Mrs. Hallock is survived by one sister, Mrs. T. K. Whipple, and one brother, Lowry P. Dawson, both of Clarion. Three sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. O. Spelman. Interment was in the Hallock family lot in the Eagle Grove cemetery.
