Herbert Irwin Hallock
13 June 1905 --- 1 May 1907BABY HALLOCK DROWNS
Sorrow Reigns in the Home of Editor and Mrs. H. B. HallockThis community was greatly shocked when the news was heralded over the city that the baby boy of Editor and Mrs. H. B. Hallock fell in the open ditch just north of the Hallock home in West Broadway and was drowned Wednesday evening. At first the news could hardly be thought to be true, so great and sadden was the surprise that such a thing could happen. Now the Hallock home is thrown into mourning and deep grief reigns over the loss of their loved one.
The awful accident occurred at about seven o'clock. Mr. Hallock had gone out to the barn to do the milking. Master Hurbert was left in the house, altho his father had often taken the little fellow with him and let him play about the barn while doing the chores. In a moment when Mrs. Hallock was in another room of the house busied about her evening duties, the lad slipped out to where his papa was at work, unaware that the boy was near him. While at play he in some manner fell into the open ditch which runs north and south thru the Hallock lots, and was drowned before discovered.
Mrs. Hallock noticing that he was not in the room sent one of the little children out to the barn to find Master Hurbert. A search was instituted and the little form was found in the ditch stilled by death. Dr. McGrath was hastily summoned and the kind neighbors gathered in to do that what was possible to revive life. For over an hour all that medical skill could possibly do was done to bring back that spirit that had so suddenly been taken away, but every effort was in vain.
Hurbert was the youngest, the baby, of four bright and winsome children that bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hallock. On the tenth of next June he would have reached his second birthday. The sad accident brings to the home the kindest sympathy of their numerous friends, who extend to them encouragement in this hour of their deep grief.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the home, Rev. York having charge of the funeral services, and interment will be made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
