William T. Copp Dies Sunday P. M. After Heart Attack
Funeral services were held at the Kastler Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 for William Thomas Copp, 81, a life long resident of Eagle Grove. Rev. Bernard Olson, pastor of the First Methodist church officiated and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. Copp died suddenly at his home, 423 North Blaine Ave., while shoveling snow Sunday afternoon. He had made his home the past two years with his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rising, and had gone to his own home to feed his horse and shovel the walks, planning to return to the Rising home later in the afternoon.
Mr. Copp is survived by his daughter Mrs. Rising, and one son Wm., Jr. of Seattle, Wash., two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and one brother Frank Copp of Eagle Grove. Mr. Copp was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Copp and was born July 3, 1884 in Eagle Grove in the apartment in the Cowan Building on Broadway. His
mother was a sister of the Cowan Brothers who operated a meat market in that building for many years, and the Copp family lived in the apartment upstairs.He was married to Nellie Georgia Ratcliffe March 29, 1904, and in 1905 they moved to their home, 423 Blaine Ave. They became the parents of three children, William Jr., Mildred, Mrs. Leonard Rising, and Irma Hansen who died March 13, 1965. Mrs. Copp died Nov. 28, 1960. Mr. Copp was a great lover of horses and for many years ran a livery barn with Bert Clark. He had a draying service and was employed by the Farmers Elevator for many years. In recent years he assisted the Wright County Fair Board on the grounds at the annual fairs. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years.
