William Copp
23 October 1856 ---- 11 September 1887

Death of Wm. Copp

It was well known in town last week that Mr. Copp was very sick, yet the news of his death last Sunday morning caused a shock to all. His disease was typhoid fever, and his illness was hardly of a week's standing.

Mr. Copp has been a resident of our town for several years, and was well known to all. He was thirty years old at the time of his death.

The funeral took place from the Methodist church at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev C. B. Winter conducting the services. The remains were buried in Goldfield cemetery.

He leaves a wife and five children, who have the sincere sympathy of all in their untimely and irretrievable loss.

"His body was moved to Eagle Grove when the Eagle Grove cemetery was established according to my Uncle James Copp. He also told me that he was the first person buried in the Eagle Grove cemetery because when he died there was no cemetery in Eagle Grove, so they buried him in Goldfield! He was married to Margaret Cowan the sister of William Holmes Cowan that built and ran Cowan Park. He also ran a hog farm between Eagle Grove and Goldfield and had a butcher shop in downtown Eagle Grove with his brother(s)."
