Burdette B. Butz
3 October 1907 --- 14 June 1982Burdette B. Butz, the son of Jonathan and Maude L. Kepler Butz, was born at Eagle Grove on October 3, 1907. He grew up and attended school in Eagle Grove. As a young man he was employed at various jobs in the Eagle Grove area. On January 20, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II and received his discharge on Sept. 7, 1945 at Oakland, Calif.
He was united in marriage with Beatrice Thompson on Dec. 23, 1948 at Eagle Grove by Rev. Kenneth Torvik. Burdette was employed by the City of Eagle Grove from 1950 until retiring in 1969. He died at his home in Eagle Grove early Monday morning, June 14, 1982 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 7 days.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Eagle Grove; a daughter, Carole, Mrs. Michael Hanus of Eagle Grove; a son, Bruce Butz of Eagle Grove; a stepdaughter, Janice, Mrs. Joe Sloan of Kenosha, Wisc.; three stepsons, Hal Banks of Davenport, Iowa; Fred Subject, who lives in Arizona; Vernon Subject, who lives in Oregon; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Keith Butz of Eagle Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Elwood of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Bernice Johnson, of Eagle Grove and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Clifford.
Funeral services for Burdette Butz, were held on Wednesday, June 16, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Charles Dutton, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated and military honors were conducted at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday.
