Iver Melbourne Sampson
6 November 1910 --- 14 March 1983Iver Melbourne Sampson, the son of Ole and Susie Iverson Sampson, was born on November 6, 1910, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in the Class of 1930. On Sept 21, 1938, he was united in marriage with Mary Mourlam at Eagle Grove. The couple lived and farmed in the Eagle Grove-Goldfield area until 1956 when they moved to Eagle Grove, where he was a custodian at the Eagle Grove High School for 18 years.
He was a long-time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. His special interests in life were his family, his work, horses, and working with leather. He died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Monday evening, March 14, 1983 at the age of 72 years, four months and eight days.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sampson of Eagle Grove; his son and daughter-in-law, Mel and Marilyn Sampson of Eagle Grove; his daughter and son-in-law. Marilyn and Marlyn Ingebritson of Dows; four grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Sampson of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sanford Sampson.
Funeral services for Iver Melbourne (Mel) Sampson were held on Thursday, March 17, 1983 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.Eagle Grove Eagle -- Eagle Grove, Iowa
