Etta M. Hanson Underberg
24 October 1891 ---- 22 March 1983

Funeral services for Etta Underberg, 81, of Bode, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. The officiating clergyman was Rev. Harold Naig. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode, with the Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Underberg is survived by four sons, Kenneth of Livermore, Joseph of Fort Dodge, Irwin of Eagle Grove, and George of Santa Monica, Calif.; three daughters, Iola, Mrs. Robert Foley of Livermore; Lillie, Mrs. Dwayne Benge of Bradgate, and Helen, Mrs. Robert Pfaff, of Evanston, Ill.; one step-son, Ted Underberg of Fort Dodge; one step-daughter, Mrs. Marie Olson of Bode; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, three brothers and six sisters.

Etta Hanson, the daughter of Henry and Marie Hanson, was born October 23, 1891, in Carpio, N.D. When she was yet a young child, the family moved to Texhoma, Tex., where she received her education. She worked in a Minneapolis millinery shop for a time and then moved to Bode. She married Carl Underberg June 10, 1916, in Humboldt.
The couple farmed in the Bode and Livermore area. They retired in 1957 and moved into Bode. After her husband's death, she moved to Humboldt and later to Eagle Grove, where she resided nine years before returning to Bode two years ago.

Mrs. Underberg was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, the American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens of Eagle Grove and Bode and the Historical Society of Humboldt. She was the mother of the late Mrs. James (Alpha) Noonan who died about one year ago.
