LYDA RUTH NEWCOMB
Lyda Ruth Thomason was born Oct. 16, 1893, east of Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of William and Jennie Herron Thomason. She received her education in the Head Grove country school south of Eagle Grove. Lyda was united in marriage to Frank Newcomb of Eagle Grove on June 29, 1921 at the Methodist parsonage in Eagle Grove. They farmed south of Eagle Grove until his death in 1966. Mrs. Newcomb lived on the farm until going to the Rotary Ann Home in May of 1985 to make her home because of her health. She died there Monday, Nov. 10, 1986 at the age of 93 years and 24 days.

She is survived by her two children: son Vernon Newcomb of Eagle Grove, and daughter Mary (Mrs. John) Rowen of Eagle Grove; a brother, Wayne Thomason, Eagle Grove; two sisters, Esther Poole, Sioux City, and Hazel Thompson, Belmond; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Willard and Leonard, an infant son and great-grandson, John Edward Rowen II.

Funeral services for Lyda Ruth Newcomb, 93, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 1986 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Kenneth Reiter of the United Church of Christ officiated, and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
