Aged Resident Taken Suddenly

Mrs. Cora Thompson Stepped in Front of Moving Train Here Last Thursday.

All Goldfield was saddened Thursday by the accident that resulted in the death of Mrs. Cora Thompson. Mrs. Thompson had spent the morning canvassing and had finished lunch at the Ressinger home and started for her home the back way, along the Rock Island tracks. A freight train was switching and the brakeman who witnessed the accident said Mrs. Thompson stopped and looked up the track and apparently thought the train was standing still at the water tank. She walked right in front of the train and was struck before it could be stopped. Both legs were taken off and it was thought that she died instantly.

Obituary

Laura Cora Gossick was born in Racine, Wis., April 24, 1851. In early girlhood she taught school for many years. In the spring of 1891 she was united in marriage to Andrew Thompson, who passed to his heavenly home in December 1893. Mrs. Thompson then resumed teaching for a short time. She taught in Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. In Minnesota in times of blizzards her own health was often endangered for the safety of the little ones in her charge.

She became a Christian in early life, and united with the Baptist church of Goldfield, Iowa, in 1894, and has ever lived a true, loyal and cheerful follower of the Lowly Jesus.

She was taken from us very suddenly and without a moment's warning on Thursday, May 6, 1926. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, one step sister and a number of nieces and nephews, besides a legion of neighbors and friends. It may well be said of her, she fought a good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith, and henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge will give her at that day.

Funeral service were held at the Baptist church Saturday at 2:30 p.m. [unreadable] and attended by a large number of sympathizing friends. There was a fine assortment of beautiful flowers presented by the church and friends. Interment was in Glenwood cemetery.
