Death of Edwin R. Nichols
Edwin R. Nichols was born May 10th 1862, at Bethany, New York. He moved with his parents to Wisconsin in 1866 and from Wisconsin to Illinois in 1870. He remained on a farm until 1880, when he entered the butcher business at Mapleton, Ia., and was in that business until he entered the service of the C. & N. W. Ry. In the fall of 1887, as brakeman and promotion following fast he assumed the position as passenger conductor, which position be held until the time of his sickness in February, 1908.

He was married to Mrs. Anna Lee, at Carroll, in the year 1898. Of this union one child, Leota May survives.

Mr. Nichols was a man of exemplary habits and commanded the confidence and respect of his associates, as well as the officials of the company. He was a kind and Indulgent father and loving husband.

He died in Nevada, Mo., September 9th, 1909. He leaves a large circle of friends who mourn his untimely death, with his loved ones. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church conducted by Rev. C. E. Chapler and the burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. A large number of railroad men accompanied the remains to the grave.
