Frank Lewis Of Lakota Passes After Stroke

Lakota — Frank Lewis, 82, well-known long-time resident of this area, died Sunday evening following a stroke at Mercy hospital, Mason City, where he had been a patient since Mar. 9. He had lived for the past several years with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Brack here.

Funeral services for Mr. Lewis were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian church, with Rev. John Reiners officiating. Burial followed at Maple Hill cemetery and Garry Funeral Home of Bancroft was in charge of arrangements,

Frank Lewis was born at Woolstock Sept. 23, 1880 and lived at Eagle Grove until 1921. He was married to Elizabeth Jones there Feb. 8, 1905 and they moved to a farm near Lakota in 1921. She preceded him in death in October, 1935. A son, Lt. Col. Virgil Lewis, was killed in 1944 during World War II.

He is survived by three sons, Hugh, Howard and Lawrence, Lakota; two daughters, Mary Jane (Mrs, Wilson Brack), Lakota, and Fern (Mrs. Wilbur Hassebrock), Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Virgil Lewis, Denver, Colo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Former Eagle Grove Resident Dies

Frank Lewis of Lakota died Sunday in a Mason City hospital following an illness of seven weeks.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Lakota.

Mr. Lewis was born in the Head Grove neighborhood east of Eagle Grove and farmed there until about 1921 when he moved with his family to a farm near Lakota. His wife was a sister of Mrs. Fred Brisbin and he was an uncle of Mrs. Geneva Sanders, Mrs. Mary Bernard and Mrs. Atta Christensen.
