LEWIS FUNERAL.

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa, Oct. 28.

—Funeral services for George E. Lewis, 33, farmer, of Head Grove, were held at the Wilson funeral chapter, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Lewis had been taken to Forest Park sanitarium at Davenport for treatment for a mental disorder, but escaped from the institution, and committed suicide by hanging. He leaves his parents and the widow and infant child.

Young Farmer Takes Own Life

George Lewis, 33, of the Head Grove neighborhood, ended his life by hanging some time Thursday. Lewis had been suffering from nervous attacks and was taken to Davenport Monday for treatment in the Forest Park sanitarium. He escaped from the sanitarium around 9 o'clock Thursday morning and was found hanging from a tree five hours later. His wife and two months old baby survive.

George Ellison Lewis, the son of George and Estella Lewis, was born Dec. 17, 1902, at the Head Grove farm a where he spent his entire life. After finishing school he continued the farming operation in partnership with his brother, Carl.

In the month of January, 1929, in the Baptist church, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. On Jan. 1, 1930, he was united in marriage with Viola Brown of Eagle Grove and to this union was born one son, George Harlan, now two months old.

He passed from this life on Oct. 24 at the age of 32 years, 10 months and 7 days. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife and little son, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lewis and four sisters, Geneva Sanders, Atta Christenson, Mary Bernard, Helen Jergenson and one brother, Carl, all residing in or near Eagle Grove; he also leaves several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and an aged grandmother of Webster City.

George was a man of good Christian character, a home-loving disposition and very conscientious in all his business dealings and will be greatly missed in his home and the community in which he has always lived.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p. m. at the Wilson Funeral Chapel. Services were in charge of Rev. Roy M Klopping and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Frank Lewis and children, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Lewis drove to Eagle Grove Saturday to attend the funeral services of Mr. Lewis’s nephew, George Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Lewis left from there for their home in Waterloo.
