Obituary
Elizabeth Mary Jones was born Jan. 25, 1882, near Woolstock, Iowa, the daughter of Hugh and Mary Jones. She was married Feb. 8, 1905, at her home north of Woolstock to Franklin T. Lewis. They lived on a farm at Head Grove until 1921, when they moved to their farm in Kossuth county, near Lakota.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. this Thursday at the Presbyterian church in Lakota. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery near Lakota.
Survivors besides her husband include: Four sons, Virgil Lee Lewis, Waterloo; Hugh Richard Lewis of Lakota; Howard Franklin Lewis and Lawrence Clinton Lewis, both at home; two daughters, Mary Jane and Fern Elizabeth, both at home; and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Virgil L. Lewis and Mrs. Hugh Lewis. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Fred G. Brisbin, Eagle Grove; Mrs. E. E. Weedman of Walnut Grove, Minn.; R. P. Jones, Woolstock, and a half-brother, Cyrus Robie, Galt.
Mrs. Lewis was baptized when a child in Wright county. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Lakota and had been prominent in its activities.
Such is the brief record of Mrs. Lewis’ life, but her many neighborly acts, her Christian sympathy and loving devotion to her family and friends can only be recorded upon the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her home and family were her first thought and to them she gave a love and devotion. None knew her but to love her and so great is the sorrow at the sudden and unexpected exit out of the world of this excellent friend, wife and mother, that, one might almost think it is a personal—a family grief with us all. A gap has been made in the community life that cannot be filled. A harder blow can never come to Mr. Lewis and his children. An aching void fills their hearts. A voice they loved is still and tears dim their eyes as they look at the vacant chair. The world needs such women as Mrs. Lewis, but God's ways are not our ways and in His infinite wisdom, He called her home, saying: "It is enough. Come up higher."
She bid no one a last farewell, she said, goodbye to none. Her loving heart had ceased to beat, before we knew she had gone. We miss thy kind and willing hand, thy fond and loving care. Our home is dark without thee, we miss you everywhere. The benediction of a beautiful life is forever and a day.
