Former Resident Dies in Burt

Funeral services for Mrs. J. N. Holding, sister of Mrs. C. A. Lee, are being held today in Burt, Iowa. Burial will be in Farnhamville.

Mrs. Holding is a former resident of Eagle Grove, and for a time lived on a farm near here, and later on what is now Mrs. Amy Donly’s home. On account of the condition of Mrs. Lee’s health, she has not been told of her sister’s death.

C. A. Lee, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hathaway, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Foll, Miss Marjorie Foll, Clayton Hathaway of Colfax and Lee Foll of Des Moines, will attend the funeral.

Mrs. J. N. Holding, Burt, Dies; Rites Conducted in Church

BURT –Funeral services for Mrs. J. N. Holding, who died her home here Monday, were at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Paul Figge conducting the service.

The body was taken to Farnhamville for burial.

Mrs. Holding is survived by husband, eleven [seven] children, Mrs. Jessie Long, Mrs. Elva Boettcher, Curtis and Clifford of Burt, Archie, Pontiac, III., Merwyn, Spencer and Arthur, Faith, S. Dak., also by a sister, Mrs. C. Lee of Eagle Grove.

RITES FOR BURT WOMAN HELD LAST THURSDAY

Burt: Funeral services for Mrs. J. N. Holding, who died at her home here Monday morning following a long illness, were held Thursday afternoon at 12:30 at the Burt Presbyterian church, Rev. Paul Figge officiating. The body was taken to Farnhamville for burial and another short service was held there.

Elva Skinner was born June 16, 1868, at Freeport. She lived as a girl at Farnhamville, where she attended school and taught school for several years. On Jan. 28, 1893 she was married to James N. Holding. To this union eight children were born.

The family lived near Farnhamville for a time, then moved to Eagle Grove, Where they lived a year. They also lived at Shell Lake, Wis., a year, moving from there to near Bancroft, where they lived six years. They then lived on a farm near Burt for 22 years. Four years ago they moved into Burt.

Mrs. Holding is survived by her husband and seven children, Mrs. Jessie Long, Burt; Archie Holding. Pontiac, Ill.; Mrs, Elva Boettcher, Curtis and Clifford Holding of Burt; Merwyn of Spencer and Arthur of Faith, S. D. A daughter, Bessie, died in infancy. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. C. A. Lee of Eagle Grove.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Lawrence and Robert Skinner and Kenneth Swearingen, Farnhamville; Mr. and Mrs, Will Hathaway and son, Clayton, Fred Foll and daughter Marjorie, Eagle Grove; the Merwyn Holdings, Spencer and Lee Foll, Des Moines.
