August 5, 1877 --- January 11, 1938

MONAGHAN RITES FRIDAY MORNING
J. D. Monaghan, manager of the Farmers Exchange, died Tuesday morning at 7:30 at Mercy hospital
following an operation performed Sunday. He had been ill at his home for four weeks previous to
entering the hospital.

Funeral services will be Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church with the Rev. T. R. Collins officiating. Burial will be in Eagle Grove.

Mr. Monaghan was born in Decatur, Ill., Aug. 5, 1877, son of Peter and May Gill Monaghan. The family moved to Eagle Grove while he was still a lad and he was married there to Mary M. Kelly on Feb. 11, 1903. They came to Waterloo in 1906 and the following year to Bremer county where they lived on a farm east of Waverly until 14 years ago, when they came to Waverly. Mr. Monaghan has been manager of the Farmers Exchange for nine years and previously had been employed by the company for four years.

Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Edgar and Thomas, both residing just east of Waverly. Another son died in infancy. There are seven grandchildren.

J. Monaghan To Be Buried Here
John Monaghan, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Monaghan of this city, died at his home in Waverly Tuesday morning after a short illness. The funeral will be held in Waverly Friday morning and burial will be made in Calvary cemetery here. It is expected the burial services will be about 1 o'clock Friday afternoon.
