23 September 1895 --- 9 October 1918The death of Miss Ruth Swanson of pneumonia was announced in last weeks Eagle.
Ruth Valborg Swanson was born in Sweden on April 23, 1895. She came to America with her parents
when she was but two years of ago. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Swanson of this city. She was educated in our schools, held various positions here in the city and then took the nurses training course at Mercy hospital, Des Moines, where she graduated with honors. She has had two years successful practice. She was a loyal patriotic American, had enlisted to over-seas work and had been accepted. She was qualified in every way for this work. She was sick but four days, pneumonia being the cause of her death. She was stricken with her fatal illness while on a case at Jewell and came home to seek aid for herself. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N F. Swanson of this city, two brothers, George of
Montana, and Gustave, attending Grinnell college and one sister, Mrs. Ed Ryan of this city. The loss of Miss Swanson was a severe one for her immediate family and in her death the government lost a competent nurse whose ability and experience assured her continued usefulness and success in ministering to the needs of the boys "over there." The Eagle joins in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives in the hour of their great loss.
