Mrs. Gertrude Minnie Thornbury, the daughter of John and Martha Fetter Heise, was born on May 19, 1911 at Corwith, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in the Corwith area. On September 21, 1930, she was married to Cecil Donaldson at Corwith. The couple made their home in Corwith. Mr. Donaldson died in 1948. Gertrude later married Grover Thornbury at Britt. The couple lived in Britt and Gertrude was employed in a dress shop in Britt for several years. Mr. Thornbury died in 1953. Mrs. Thornbury continued to live in Britt until 1958, when she moved to Corwith, where she lived until moving to Eagle Grove in 1976. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Corwith and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She died at her home in Eagle Grove early Monday morning, February 8, 1982 after suffering a heart attack. She attained the age of 70 years, 8 months and 19 days.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette and her son-in-law, Darwin Kaulen of Boone; three grandchildren, Cynthia Kaulen of Webster City; Jeff Kaulen of Denison; Kari Kaulen of Boone; a brother, Arnold Heise of Bentonville, Arkansas and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude M. Thornbury, age 70, of Eagle Grove, were held on Wednesday, February 10, 1982 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Don Callen officiated. Further services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith. Pastor Marvin Robeck officiated and burial was in the Corwith Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Tuesday.
