Nancy Bakker, 68, of Dows passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services for Nancy Bakker will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 109 North Eskridge in Dows with Pastor Alaire Willits officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 100 North Lee Street in Dows.

Nancy Beth, daughter of Herbert and Dorothy (Fink) Eriksen, was born on May 19, 1951 in Iowa Falls. Nancy grew up in Dows and graduated from Dows Community School in 1969. After high school, Nancy attended Rochester Community College and received her Iowa Board of Nursing Certificate in 1971. In 1989, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from College of St. Francis. For over 30 years, Nancy worked as a nurse at the hospital in Clarion.

On August 31, 1969, Nancy was united in marriage to Donald Bakker at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. Since Don was in the service, they made their home in various places – Key West, Florida being her favorite. They finally settled back in Dows and raised their two children, Nathan and Kara.

Nancy enjoyed reading and taking care of people. She was kind, gentle, and compassionate; the qualities that made her a great nurse and friend. Nancy always put the needs of others before her own.

Every Tuesday, she would go golfing at the Dows Golf Course with her group of friends. Nancy was a member of Kinsington Club and was an Elder at the Presbyterian Church. Spending time with her family and grandchildren was most important to her.

Nancy is survived by her son Nathan Bakker of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; daughter Kara (Brian) Heiserman of Coulter; six grandchildren, Mackenzie Bakker, Blake Heiserman, Kaila Heiserman, Kady Heiserman, Brody Heiserman and Braeden Heiserman; three brothers, Kerry Eriksen, David Eriksen, and Paul Eriksen; sister Shari (Dave) Osier; three nieces, Faith (Steve) Peters, Angela Ingraham, and Ashlee Osier; nephew Kendall Osier; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Don and parents Herb and Dorothy.
