Donald L. Bakker, 45, Clarion, died at his home on Thursday evening, March 23. He had been diagnosed with cancer last April.

Services were held from the Clarion Church of Christ on Monday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark Young officiating. Military honors were given by the Watson-Beach Post #523, Dows American Legion at Fairvicw Cemetery in Dows. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements. Gary Brandt was the organist and special music was provided by Tom Hicks, John Mandul and Don Bosch. Honorary bearers were Bill Parsons, Bill Randall, Bill Fielder, Scott Powers, Paul Harrington and Bob Hackbarth. Casket bearers were Ed Dugan, Jay Hansen, John Johnson, Kerry, David and Paul Eriksen.

Donald L. Bakker was born at Manilla, on July 20, 1949, the son of John and Arliene Sheffield Bakker. The family moved to Dows where he graduated from Dows High School in 1968. He then joined the United States Navy and served ten years. On August 31, 1969, Don and Nancy B. Eriksen were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. In 1978, they returned to Dows and he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for two years. He then went to work at the Dows Farmers Co-op for the next nine years. He joined Ferrellgas and was the manager of the Rowan and Webster City plants. He worked until January 5, 1995.

He was a member of the Clarion Church of Christ. He had been a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nancy; a son, Nathan and his wife, Gloria of Waterloo; a daughter Kara at home; his mother, Arliene Bakker of Dows; three brothers, Douglas of Brentwood, California; Dennis and Jon of Dows and a sister Deborah Mandal of Dows. He was preceded in death by an infant sister and his father.
