Norman Dean Gangstead, the son of Joseph and Gladys Marie (Beisell) Gangstead, was born on May 8, 1931, on the family farm in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1949. On May 27, 1951, Norman was united in marriage with Barbara Bjornson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home and raised their four children in Goldfield. Norman farmed and also worked as a welder for Erickson Manufacturing and drove a milk truck for the Goldfield Creamery.

Norman was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. He enjoyed wood working and "fixing" everything! - Norman believed that a 4 inch deck screw renovated anything and all things. Norman passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandchild; brother, Jim Gangstead and sister, Marilyn Hokel. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gangstead of Eagle Grove; daughter, Kathy Herre and husband Pat of Caldwell, ID; son, Doug Gangstead and wife Sandi of Goldfield; daughter, Robin Hamann and husband John of Santa Rosa, CA; son, Mike Gangstead and wife Kathie of Redmond, OR; nine grandchildren: Jacquie, Brian, Danae, Brent, Kevin, Dustin, Sara, Alex and Amanda; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Arlene Northrop of Stanhope. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield with visitation Friday, from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Foust Funeral Homes, Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
