LaVonne (Hood) Keppers, long time resident of Eagle Grove, Lake Cornelia, and most recently the Marian Home in Fort Dodge, died October 11, 2019.

LaVonne Mary Hood, daughter of George and Agnes (Henneberry) Hood, was born January 29, 1924 in Gilmore City, Iowa. She attended Corpus Christi Academy and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1939. She worked for Benard’s Ladies Clothing Store in downtown Fort Dodge and at the age of 19 became the youngest store manager with the Chicago based company. She met Harold Keppers at the Laramar Ballroom in Fort Dodge. They married in 1946 and farmed in the Eagle Grove area where they raised 7 daughters.

LaVonne purchased Bridal Lane in 1976 and The House of William Dress Shop in 1981 in Fort Dodge. She retired in 1999.

She is survived by her loving daughters; Linda (Jerry) Toomer of Carmel, IN, Marilynn Clark (Jack Baloga) of Bloomington, MN, Patricia (Clark) Wadle of Clarion, IA, Jonetta (Dave) Harrington of Cedar Falls, IA, Lori (Craig) Gascho of Badger, IA, Karla (Dan) Swanson of Northfield, MN, and Barb Dencklau (Bob Porter) of Fort Dodge, IA. Her 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren brought great joy to her.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents George and Agnes Hood, her husband of 59 years Harold, sister Delores Thomas, brother Msgr. Mervin J. Hood, her infant daughter Maria and grandson Michael Toomer.

First visitation will be held Monday, October 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home, Fort Dodge. A second visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 15 at Sacred Heart Church, Eagle Grove followed by 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards the Marian Home, Fort Dodge or to the charity of your choice. Gunderson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
