Alva Beatrice Berg, the daughter of Chris and Lena Anfinson Berg was born on October 8, 1906, in Wright County near Goldfield, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School and received a B.A. Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Later she did graduate work at the University of California at Berkeley, Calif. She taught elementary, secondary, and college classes for a total of forty-two years. In 1968, she retired from teaching in East Chicago, Ind. She moved back to the family home and lived there with her sister, Esther Berg. In 1994, she moved to West
Des Moines, Iowa.

Alva Beatrice Berg died on Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 2 days. Survivors include her sister, Sara Garrison, and her husband, Gordon, Sr., West Des Moines; a niece and three nephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mrs. Anna Wherry, and Miss Esther Berg; and her brother, Christian Berg.

Private graveside services were held Saturday, December 12, 1998, at the family lot in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield with Reverend Carlton Shaw officiating. Westover Funeral Home of Des Moines, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
