Elmer McCallum is down with the scarlet fever but is progressing very satisfactorily and there are strong hopes that he will pull through unscathed. Elmer very unselfishly and heroically came to the relief of his friend and schoolmate George Pehl and assisted very materially in nursing him during his recent illness. As a result Elmer contracted the disease and is now confined to his bed with a beautifully mottled, skin.

Death of George Pehl

The community was inexpressibly shocked the morning after Christmas when the news, was spread that George Pehl had passed away that morning at half past ten o'clock. Christmas Day we were gladdened by the report that he was better. But that night he suffered a relapse and the next morning gave up the fight and answered the last roll call. Only the Friday night before he had aided very materially in helping the high school basket ball team defeat Belmond and now he was dead, cut off in the full vigor of a bright young manhood. He was born November 22, 1901 and died December 26, 1919, aged 18 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Interment was had in Glenwood cemetery on Saturday last.
