Mrs. Riley, 85, Dies in City

Mrs. John Riley, 85, longtime resident of Webster City, died yesterday, at 5:45 p.m. at the Hubbard Nursing home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McCauley-Chapman funeral home with the Rev. Z. J. Hougham officiating and with burial in the Goldfield cemetery.

Hannah D. Kerschner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Kershner was born August 8, 1868, at Lafayette, Ind. When she was a small child the family moved to Maroa, Ill., then moved to Wright county, Iowa, in 1881, settling near Goldfield.

August 4, 1885, she married John Riley, and the couple farmed near Goldfield. In 1901 they moved to Ceylon, Minn. In 1909, the Rileys moved to Webster City and Mrs. Riley had lived here ever since. Mr. Riley operated a milk depot and dairy business for many years. Mr. Riley was chief of police of Webster City for eight years before retiring in 1927.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 18, 1941, by her parents and one daughter Mrs. Edna M. Dotson. Surviving are three children: Mrs. McKinley (Vera) McCollough and Mrs. Ted (Pearl) Weedman, both of this city, and Richard Riley of St. Louis, three grandchildren who were reared in the Riley home, R. A. (Bud) Dotson of Ames, Mrs. L. R. Olson and Mrs. Leon Gilpin of Meservey, Iowa; seven other grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Frank Kerschner of Webster City.

Mrs. Riley was a charter member of the Methodist church at Ceylon, Minn.

Bury Webster City Woman Saturday
Interment of Mrs. John Riley of Webster City was in the Glenwood cemetery in Goldfield Saturday afternoon and lunch was served to the relatives by Mrs. Bruce Riley.
