May 13, 1907 --- November 11, 1985

Olaf Andrew Knutson, the son of Peter and Inga Larsen Knutson, was born near Hardy in Humboldt County, Iowa, on May 13, 1907. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in the rural schools. On December 24, 1927, he was united in marriage with Sadie T. Nervig at Humboldt. To this union were born five children, Robert, Charles, Harold, Shirley and Sandra. The family lived on a farm in the area for a few years and then moved to Thor and Olaf was in the general trucking business for many years in the Thor area. He always loved sports of all kinds and was an avid gardener and raised lots of flowers, vegetables and fruit in his gardens.

He was a long-time member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, had served on the Thor City Council; was a member of the Thor Fire Department for many years and was a member of the Thor Commercial Club.

He died Monday afternoon, Nov. 11, 1985, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 78 years, five months and 28 days. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Martha Knutson of Longville, Minn.; Charles and Sue Knutson of Longwood, Fla.; Harold and Mildred Knutson of Eagle Grove; his daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Ronald Morgan of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Sandra Lehr of Keota; 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Kermit Knutson of Eagle Grove; four sisters, Esther, Mrs. Dean Smith of Des Moines; Ruth, Mrs. Bert Friesth of Humboldt; lone, Mrs. Francis Grandgeorge of Okoboji; Sally, Mrs. Chuck Prehm of Eagle Grove; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sadie, who died in 1981; two grandchildren and two brothers, Ray and Percy.

Funeral services for Olaf A. Knutson, 78, of Thor, were held Thursday, Nov. 14, 1985 at 11 a.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. Dr. Palmer B. Wold of Renwick officiated and burial was in the East Ullensvang Cemetery near Thor. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
