A LONG USEFUL LIFE.

Obituary of Abraham Bechtel, Who Passed Away Sunday.

Abraham Bechtel was a native of Germany, being born at Baden, in the year 1817, on the 14th of Nov. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. P. Johnson, of Glidden, Sunday evening at 8 o'clock, April 1, old age being the cause of his demise.

A short funeral service was held at the home at Glidden before the funeral party took their departure for this city on Tuesday. Funeral services were held here in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Reverends Hastings and Sletten having charge of the services. Quite a number of the friends of the deceased and of the family attended the services. Burial was made in Rosa Hill cemetery along the side of his wife who had proceeded him.

Abraham Bechtel came to this country in the year 1836, and after having worked thru the eastern states for several years he came out West and located at Dubuque, where he maintained his residence for a great number of years. In 1849 [1852] he was married to Miss Freidicia [Fredericka] Stecher at Pittsburg. To this happy union was born three children, one of whom has passed into the Beyond. There survives him a son H. A. Bechtel, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. A. P. Johnson, of Glidden. He was a faithful member of the German Lutheran church. His life was an exemplary one and the world has been made better by his having passed more than four score years upon it.
