Emil Reynold Ekstrom was born May 8, 1906, at Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Lenus and Matilda Jacobsen Ekstrom. He attended school at Fort Dodge, Vincent and Tobin Business College, Fort Dodge, and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa. Emil was united in marriage to Iona Norem of Thor, Iowa, on December 15, 1945, at Thor. The couple farmed in the Vincent and Woolstock areas, retiring in 1971.

Emil Ekstrom was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, Board of Directors of Boone Valley Co-op; Board of Directors of the Woolstock Co-op; Board of Directors of the Woolstock Telephone Company; Farm Bureau member; member of the Troy Township School Board, and was very active in conservation work in Wright County He also had been an active member of South Enes Lutheran Church at Vincent, Iowa, where he served as Deacon and Trustee.

Emil Ekstrom died May 15, 1987, at the Villa Park Care Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 81 years and seven days. He had been in ill health for some time. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ray Ekstrom; three sisters, Helen Westre, Elsie Willey, and Edna Laurent. He is survived by his wife, Iona of Eagle Grove; two sons, Dean Ekstrom, Centerville, Keith Ekstrom, Fort Dodge; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Agnes) Hofmann; Mrs. Clyde (LaVonne) Sheker both of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter.

Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, Iowa with the Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating at the 2 p.m. service Monday, May 18. Burial was in Newark Township Cemetery in Vincent, Iowa.
