Van Nuys Dentist Under Treatment for Sudden Illness

Thomas J. Loughlin, D. D. S., reported responding to specialists’ treatment and maintaining current physical condition, as The News closed for press, following a cerebral hemorrhage sustained Friday shortly after noon in his office at 5644 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys.

Dr. Loughlin had just completed an appointment with a patient at 12:30 p.m. and was stricken at that time. He was removed to St. Hospital, Burbank, where he now is being treated.

Mrs. Loughlin, at the 6919 Firmament Ave. family home, stated visitors are not permitted at the hospital at present, while expressing appreciation, for the solicitude of many friends who have contacted her concerning her husband's illness.

Thomas J, Loughlin, Van Nuys Dentist, Victim of Illness

Thomas John Loughlin, D.D.S., died Tuesday night in St. Joseph’s Hospital following sudden and brief illness, at 47 years of age.

He had practiced dentistry in Hollywood prior to 1940, when he established offices in Van Nuys, currently at 5644 Van Nuys Blvd.

Dr. Loughlin was active in St. Elizabeth's Church parish, and in Lodge 1539, B.P.O. Elks.

He is survived by his widow Phyllis; three daughters – Mrs. Barbara Gordon of the Hawaiian Islands; Sheila and Carolyn at 6919 Firmament Ave., the family home; by a son, Tom, also at home, and by his brother, Francis J. Loughlin, also of Van Nuys.

Arrangements for services are pending at Praisewater’s Funeral Home. Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
