Karen Wauneta Possehl was born on March 23, 1939, to Frederick and Hazel Possehl. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1957, and was married later that year to Richard Larson, also from Eagle Grove, Iowa. They lived several years in Webster City, Iowa. In 1982, they moved to Pearland, Texas, where she worked as a legal office administrator for several years before illness made full-time work impossible. She married Jan Bel of Houston, Texas, in 1995. They lived in Oak Island, Texas, for two years.

Karen W. Bel died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at her home in Oak Island at the age of 61. She is survived by her husband, Jan Bel; three children, Mark, Deanna, and Eric; 10 grandchildren; three step-children; and her ex-husband, Richard Larson.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 3, 2000, at her home. Donations should be made to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, NY.
