J. H. Loughlin Dead

Although not unexpected the news of J. H. Loughlin's death was received with sincere regret by a large and sympathetic circle of Clarion friends, all of whom extend a word of condolence to the sorrowing family. The Eagle Grove Evening Times of Saturday contained the following fitting obituary, which we reproduce in full:

"On Friday night, March 17th at 10:30 o'clock the soul of Jas. H. Loughlin passed to its eternal reward. The end came so peacefully that the friends and relatives watching at his bedside were hardly aware that it was the end. For some two years past Mr. Loughlin has been ailing and about a year ago his trouble changed into consumption, and although all that loving hands could do has been done, the dread disease could not be crushed. During all this time of ill health he has been patient and always appreciated what was done for him. His has been a life worthy of emulation, always courteous, obliging and ready to help others, he has gathered about him a host of warm friends in whose hearts his memory will always be cherished. Wherever he has been during his life those with whom he has come in contact have felt his influence for good, and his place, now that he is gone, cannot be readily filled. A loving husband, indulgent father, his home was his first thought all through his life. To the immediate family the blow is a hard one, and to these is extended the heartfelt sympathy of the many friends in this and other cities where they have lived.

Jas. H. Loughlin was born in Waukesha, Wis., on July 22d, 1850. Tbe family moved to Manitowoc, Wis., and from thence to Ackley, Iowa, in 1867. Mr. Loughlin was married on Jan. 11, 1881, to Miss Kate S. Linehan at Red Oak, and immediately after the wedding they came to Clarion, where they remained until Feb. 4, 1895, when be engaged in the grocery business in East Eagle Grove. About a year ago Mr. Loughlin was compelled to leave the store and he has been confined to the house from that time. On Nov. 14 last the business was sold. To Mr. and Mrs. Loughlin were born five children, Louis, Genevieve, Raymond, Loretta and Cecil, all of whom, with the mourning wife; survive the father.

Funeral will occur Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the house to Sacred Heart church.”
