July 16, 1884 --- September 26, 1905

The word received in this city this afternoon conveys the sad intelligence that Miss Genevieve Loughlin had died at 3:30 o' clock, at the home of the family in Clarion. Miss Loughlin has been a sufferer for some time and has been gradually getting worse. Some time ago she was taken to the hospital at Rochester, Minn., but the best medical aid could not reach her ailment. She has many friends in this city who will sincerely mourn her untimely demise, and the family will have the profound sympathy of their many Eagle Grove friends.

The death of Miss Genevieve Loughlin occurred yesterday afternoon at half-past three. Her death is an especially sad one in that it bereft a widowed mother of her eldest daughter–a bright and lovable young lady and in a great measure her hope and comfort. All are familiar with her first illness, her trip to the hospital, and the days of suffering since. Miss Genevieve was past twenty-one years of age, having been born in Clarion on July 16th, 1884. Most of her life was spent here and it is here that she was best known and loved.

The remains will be taken to Eagle Grove for interment beside those of her father, J. H. Loughlin. Mass will be held at St. John's church in Clarion on Thursday morning at 8:45 o'clock and the remains taken to Eagle Grove on the 10 o'clock train..

GENEVIEVE LOUGHLIN DEAD.

Passes Away at Her Home in Clarion Tuesday Afternoon.

Miss Genevieve Loughlin, whose illness has been noted from time to time in these columns, died at the family residence on east Clark street Tuesday afternoon of this week at 3:30 o'clock. She was taken ill last spring with appendicitis and underwent an operation at the Rochester hospital, after which it was thought she was on the way to recovery, but the disease had too strong a hold upon her, baffling the skill of physicians and the tender nursing of the mother and relatives. She grew weaker day by day until she fell into eternal sleep.

Genevieve Loughlin was born in Clarion 21 years ago and here she spent much of her life. She was a young lady of the highest standard of womanhood. Her life was pure and sweet and unselfish. She was known to a large circle of friends and acquaintances and was universally loved. It seems to us that a life like her's could have no regrets, either in its own dying moments or in the hearts of the mother and relatives in the years to follow.

The funeral services were held at the Catholic church yesterday morning. Father Linehan, of Fort Dodge said high mass and conducted the ceremonies, assisted by Father Murray of Clarion, and Father O'Brien of Eagle Grove. Interment was at Eagle Grove beside her father who died several years ago.
