Mary Agnes “Mamie” Ley Woodard
16 September 1868 --- 29 February 1956

Mary (Mamie) Ley was born September 16, 1868 in Chicago, Ill., and passed away Feb. 29, 1956 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Archie Newcomb. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David G. Ley. At the age of 18 months she moved with her parents to a farm about 12 miles north of Webster City and after about six years moved to a farm 2-1/2 miles north of Woolstock, Iowa.

She united with the Methodist church at Woolstock at the age of 18 years. She was active in church work as organist for 1? years and was faithful in attendance at church all her life whenever her health permitted. She loved her church.

January 1, 1890 she was married to Richard S. Woodard. To this union were born four children: Ruby A. Newcomb of Eagle Grove, Roy David of Boone, Iowa, Ley Richard of Eagle Grove and Mercy Watson, of St. Paul, Minn. Mr. Woodard passed away June 25, 1929. She leaves a brother Harry Ley of San Benito, Calif., also 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One grandson Francis Ley Woodard preceded her in death June 28, 1954. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Chapel at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. Roy Cox. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Attending the services from out of the city were Mr and Mrs. Glenn Watson, St. Paul; Charles Watson, Wheaton, Ill., Mrs. Kenneth Weland and Sharon, Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Woodard, Boone, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Woodard, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stone, Mr. and Mrs. John McCollough and Bertha Kahl, of Webster City.
