Gurine Serena Anderson Kvale Peterson

22 February 1861 ---- 4 January 1940

Mrs. Jacob Peterson, who has been quite ill for some time, passed away Thursday morning at the home of her son, Sam Peterson. Funeral services were held Monday at the Holmes Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Serine Peterson
Serine Peterson was born February 22, 1861 to parents Andres and Guri [Bjornsdatter] Anderson of Haugesund, Norway. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed at the age of fifteen at Haugesund Lutheran church, Norway, and migrated to Ames, Iowa, May 10, 1881. On November 18, 1885 she was united in marriage to Jacob Peterson of Badger. To this union were born six sons and two daughters: Peter, Andrew, John, Sadie, Lewis, Sam, Enock and Hilda. In 1890 she moved with her family to a farm near Holmes, and died January 4, 1940, at the home of her son and daughter, Sam Peterson and Mrs. Hilda Tuttle of Clarion, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 13 days, after a long illness, being an invalid for the last eight years.

She is preceded in death twenty-five years ago by her husband, Jacob Peterson, by four sons, Andrew, John, Lewis, Enock, and by one daughter, Mrs. Sadie Gord of Thor; by two brothers, Knut Anderson of Madison, Minn., and by Bjorn Kvale of Haugesund, Norway and by a sister, Mrs. Anna Slanger of Chicago, Ill. She is survived by two sons: Peter and Sam Peterson and by one daughter, Mrs. Hilda Tuttle of Clarion, by six grandchildren, Mrs. Cora Roetman, by Lensworth, Madeline and Clarence of Corwith, by Howard and Lawrence Tuttle of Clarion„ by one great granddaughter, Sandra Roetman of Eagle Grove and by two sisters at Haugesund, Norway.

Mrs. Peterson was a dutiful and faithful wife and mother, and who suffered patiently during her long years of illness, but her only hope was Christ Jesus to whom she surrendered.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 8, 1940 at the home and at the HoImes Lutheran church and was conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske. She was laid to rest at Holmes Cemetery.
