Myron James Benton was born March 17, 1928, at Dows, Iowa, the son of Earl and Nellie Paulsen Benton. He received his education in the Dows school. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on June 3, 1946, at Ft. Snelling, Minn. and served three years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ainger of Belmond in August of 1947 at Eagle Grove. After discharge from service the family settled in Belmond for a time, then moved to Eagle Grove where Myron was employed by the Propane Gas Co-op. At the time of his death, he was the manager of Gas Co-op.

Myron had been in ill health for some time and more recently had spent time in Mason City, Iowa City and Fort Dodge for medical care. He entered Trinity West Hospital, Fort Dodge, on July 23, for surgery, and passed away there on Wednesday, August 1, at the age of 45 years, four months and 14 days.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nellie Benton, Eagle Grove; his wife, Ruth; son, Larry; and daughter Loraine, all of Eagle Grove; one brother, Evan Benton, Eagle Grove; three sisters, Mrs. Myrna Hamm of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Leo Russell and Mrs. Sam Morgan of Eagle Grove; also three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Myron was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. August 3, at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Donald Forbes officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
