AUTO GAS KILLS ANDREW LANGLAND
Found Dead in Garage Thursday Morning
Dead 10 Days or More

The body of Andrew Langland was found in the garage on the Matt Ramer place Thursday morning. He had not been seen since Sunday morning, December 25th. County Coroner Walker was called and found that he met his death by asphyxiation. Apparently he had been changing the numbers on his car. The rear plate had been changed. Tools used in making the changes were found on the floor back of the car. The gas tank was empty and the switch turned on. It is assumed that he started the car to running to warm up the engine while he made the number change. The night before he had called at the Eagle Grove Battery Station and had left his battery to be charged and had taken out a rental battery which he had placed in his car. There was no sign of violence or foul play.

Matt Ramer Found Body
Engineer Matt Ramer, from whom Langland rented the garage, had entered the building to get a shovel and found Langland lying on his back with his head toward the door near the rear of the car. He notified the authorities and the body was taken to the Kubitschek and Kastler Undertaking parlors and the coroner notified.

Was War Veteran
Langland served in the army several months and was discharged with the rank of corporal. He was living in the Paine block with his two sisters. He was employed at the round house and was saving his money. He had a certificate of deposit at the First National Bank and had a small checking account. He also left some life insurance. He was a loyal member of the American Legion and was making his life useful in every way. His death is genuinely regretted.

The funeral services were held at the United Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. The American Legion was represented, and military honors were given at the grave.

Andrew Langland was born in Skjold, Norway December 18, 1889 and died in Eagle Grove, December 25, 1921 [body found January 5, 1922]. At the time of his death, he was 32 years and 7 days of age. A few years ago he had inflammatory rheumatism which left him with a weak heart. He served in the World War.

He leaves his aged mother and five brothers, Theodore, Thomas, Jake, Osmund and Martin, and three sisters, Mrs. Alfred Madson, Martha and Madeline. His father preceded him August 1906, and a brother, Sam, on December 17, 1913 [1914], and two brothers died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Erick Knutson home a 2:00 o'clock, and from the East Side Lutheran church. The American Legion was in attendance. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
