Mary Helen Bowes Henneberry
12 October 1875 -- 22 February 1932

Mrs. J. W. Henneberry died at her home in this city Monday evening Feb. 22. She had been in poor health for a number of months and her death was not unexpected. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart church this Thursday morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. L. W. Klassen in charge.

Mrs. Henneberry has been a resident of Eagle Grove since she was five years of age. She was born at Clarence, Iowa, on Oct. 12, 1875. Her parents, John and Nellie Bowes moved to Eagle Grove five years later and this city has been her home continuously since that time. She was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1892 and later attended St. Clara's Academy at Sinsinawa, Wis. On Nov. 9, 1895, she was united in marriage, to J. W. Henneberry. Three children survive, Carlin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, John and Mary of Eagle Grove.

Mrs. Henneberry has witnessed the growth of Eagle Grove from a mere side track on the Northwestern Railroad to a city of over 4,000 people. With her husband she had much to do with its early development. Mr. Henneberry had an active part in every enterprise which had community betterment in view. His wife, was a material aid in these matters and took pardonable pride in his successes. She was active in the school life of our city and was one of the organizers of the Eagle Grove high school alumni association.

The mere recital of the organizations of which she was an active member shows how active and useful she was in community affairs. She is a past president of the Womens Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She is a member of the B. of R. T. Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America. She was the present secretary of the Republican Central Committee of Wright County. She was a leader of the Red Cross work during the war. Her passing removes a very useful and devoted citizen whose going is never more missed than at a time when some one else must be found to carry on. Mrs. Henneberry's various activities gave her a wide acquaintance in Wright county and elsewhere, who extend the bereaved and sorrowing relatives, their sincerest sympathy in the hour of their great sorrow.

Besides the three children mentioned above, two sisters survive, Mrs. James Zigrang, of Livermore, and Miss Margaret Bowes of Des Moines. Her aged mother, Mrs. Nellie Bowes of this city also survives. A brother, Dr. John Bowes died about a year ago.
