John McPherson, the son of F. M. McPherson and Mary E. Clark McPherson, was born on June 30, 1894 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up on a farm east of Eagle Grove. During World War I, John served in the U.S. Army. For many years, he made his home with his sister, Laura and her husband, Harry Inners near Goldfield. After their deaths, he lived with his nephew and his wife, Glenn and Monice Yarnell near Goldfield. In January of 1971, John suffered a stroke and later entered the Dows Care Center. He died at the Dows Care Center on Tuesday, August 31, 1982 at the age of 88 years, two months, and two days. During his life, John loved the farm life and was a great lover of horses. He attended the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his nephew and his wife, Glenn and Monice Yarnell of Goldfield; a great-niece, Mrs. Jeanette Lowe of Bloomfield, Conn.; his great-great nieces and nephews, Lowery, Greg and Bobby Yarnell, Jr. and Mechelle and Melissa Yarnell, all of Laurel, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a nephew.

Funeral services for John McPherson were held on Thursday, September 2, 1982 at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Lester Hancock of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield officiated. Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
