He moved to Indiana with his parents when a small boy, where he lived and grew to manhood. When he was 21 he was united in marriage with Mary E. Clark daughter of James and Nancy Clark of Shoals, Ind. To them were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Three others had preceeded him in death, Nora in 1892, Viola in 1923 and Carrie in 1926.
In 1882 he moved with his family to Eagle Grove. Later he purchased a farm near Florence where he lived until 1920 when he retired and moved to Eagle Grove. His wife died on August 10, 1910.

McPherson of Washington, Ind., Sherman McPherson of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Dorothy Ellis of Texhoma, Okla., Mrs. Dora Crane of Loogootee, Ind., and Mrs. Lucy Gray of Perry, Iowa. The two latter were at his bedside at the time of his death.
Mr. McPherson with his family united with the Methodist church in Troy township many years ago after moving here from Indiana. He never removed his membership from that church. He was modest and retiring in nature and made for himself many lasting friends. He has lived more that four score years and had made his contribution to the community in which he has lived.
