THE LATE ANTHONY TREADGOLD

Came to Emmetsburg Forty Years Ago. Was 84 Years Old.

Anthony Treadgold passed peacefully away at Eagle Grove, on Aug. 5, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. McGrath, at the age of eighty-four years and eighteen days.

Mr. Treadgold was born in Lincolnshire, England, July 18, 1840. He was married to Elizabeth Parnham, who preceded him in death nine years ago the twenty-third of this month. Upon coming to this country, Mr. Treadgold located at Morrison, Illinois, in 1870, where he lived until 1884, when he moved with his family to Emmetsburg, Iowa, where he purchased land and built a home. Fourteen years later he retired from the farm and made his home in the city of Emmetsburg where he and his wife lived until 1909. After spending three years in Colorado, he and Mrs. Treadgold located at Eagle Grove, where they made their home until broken by the death of Mrs. Treadgold in 1915. Mr. Treadgold still retained his home farm at Emmetsburg and for the past nine years divided his time between that place and the home of J. W. McGrath of Eagle Grove.

He leaves tor mourn his passing three daughters—Mrs. R. A. Norrish, Morrison, Ill.; Mrs. C. R. Darland, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mrs. J. W. McGrath of Eagle Grove, and one son, Charles, of Houston, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Muhleman of the Methodist church in the funeral parlors of Foil & Wilson, Eagle Grove, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery beside Mrs. Treadgold and his son, John, whose burial took place eight weeks ago. The pall bearers were A. M. Anderson, Wm. Lape, W. A. Brisbin, Wm. Cole, D. H. Atwood and Peter Christensen. Those from out of the city who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Parnham, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Law and Mr. Kerr, all of Emmetsburg.

Mr. Treadgold was one of the real workers and substantial builders of Palo Alto county. He lived to a ripe old ago and, to use the common expression, he loved to be in the harness. He was rugged and hearty and he very seldom spared himself. He kept excellent livestock. He never neglected his buildings or his fields. He was upright and he was courteous and reasonable in his dealings with his fellow-citizens and he made it a point to settle his obligations promptly and fully. He was a kind neighbor, a devoted friend and an upright, useful citizen. His sons and daughters had the best that his means could provide and they made good use of their time and their efforts. All who knew Mr. Treadgold will learn with profound sorrow of his death and will unite with the Democrat in extending unfeigned sympathy to his surviving son and daughters.
