John Larsen, 89, a former resident of Eagle Grove, died January 16th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Larsen moved to Minneapolis in 1947 and since have resided with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Quam. Mr. Larson is survived by his wife, one son Lawrence Larsen of Marion, Ohio, his daughter Mrs. Quam, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran church and Pastor Kenneth R. Torvik officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

John Larsen, son of Lars Jonason Kvale and Kari Paulson, was born in Haegebostad, Norway on January 19, 1864 and died in Minneapolis, Minn. on January 16, 1953 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 28 days. He was baptized in Grindheim Parish and was confirmed in 1879 in Tveit Parish. In 1880 he emigrated from Norway to Brooklyn, N. Y where he settled and worked as a cabinet maker. He was an organizer and charter member of the Norwegian Singing Society of Brooklyn. He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran church of Brooklyn and a member of the first board of trustees. On April 22, 1899 he was united in marriage with Hansine Sophie Olsen. To this union were born two children, Lawrence and Thora.

In the fall of 1912 they moved to Illinois and in 1916 to Eagle Grove, Iowa where Mr. Larsen joined the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church and remained a member until his death. In 1944 illness forced them to retire from farming and to move to the home of their daughter, Mrs. N. E. Quam in Randall, Iowa. In 1947 they moved with the Quams to Minneapolis where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife, his son Lawrence of Marion, Ohio and a daughter, Mrs. N. E. Quam of Minneapolis and four grandchildren.
