7 March 1848 ---- 7 June 1922

Chas. Laurent died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Christensen, Wednesday evening, June 7th. He had suffered from stroke of paralysis which followed an injury by a street car at Fort Dodge. Mr. Laurent was knocked down and injured by a Ft. Dodge Street car and never recovered. He was a patient sufferer during his conscious moments; possessed a very rugged constitution which enabled him to prolong his life long after doctors had given up all hope.

Obituary

Charles Laurent, the son of John Joseph and Mary T. Lescue Laurent was born in France March 7, 1848, and at the age of 22 years immigrated to the United States, locating in Leo county, Illinois, where he labored as farmhand for one year. He was educated in the schools of his native land.

He was united in marriage to Delia Henry, daughter of Constance and Delphine Henry, April 30, 1872, and lived in Lee county until 1884. To this union eight children were born, five living, Mrs. Pearl E. Beveridge of Kansas City, Mrs. T. B. Koams, of Mason City, and Edward, Frank and Mrs. Geo. F. Christensen of Eagle Grove.

In 1884 he removed from Illinois to Webster City, locating on an 80 acre farm which he had purchased two years before, and general farming and stock raising became the mode of production, and he soon became successful, increasing his holdings to two hundred acres.

He was quiet and unassuming, but forceful and honest; he accomplished much and in the performance of his duties toward his family and fellow citizens he won a host of good friends.

After a lingering illness of six months, death came to relieve the brave spirit on Wednesday evening, June 7, 1922, at which time he was 74 years, 3 months old.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, five children, already mentioned, and eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Catholic church at 9 o'clock Saturday with interment in Calvary cemetery.
