Oren B. Rininger
December 3, 1923 ---- January 16, 2018

Oren B. Rininger, age 94, of Schaller, Iowa died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Schaller Cemetery with full military rites by the Schaller Hup-Tu Squad. Visitation will take place Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Oren B. Rininger was born December 3, 1923 in Polk County, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Stella Rininger. He graduated from Schaller High School in 1942 and attended Buena Vista College for one year before going to service. He served three years in the Navy and was on the U.S.S. Astoria in the Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged on March 13, 1946.

April 1946, Oren took over farming the land for his father, due to illness, and after his death continued to be a livestock and grain farmer.

August 20, 1950, Oren married Gretchen L. Helmke in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with three children: Curtis, Marcia, and Lisa.

Oren was a member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church having served as Sunday School Secretary and several terms as a Deacon and Elder. He was on the Finance Committee for the building of the new church in 1953. Other interests include having served on the Sac County Extension Council, Eureka 4-H club leader, Schaller School Board, and was a member of the Schaller VFW.

Oren enjoyed boating, being on the water, and spending time at their home in Okoboji during the summer. He also stayed active by golfing, walking, and biking. Oren will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Curtis (Terri) Rininger of Schaller, Iowa; Marcia (Jim Haugen) Rininger of Omaha, Nebraska; Lisa (Kelly) Meusburger of Schaller, Iowa; grandchildren: Cody (Caitlin), Whitney, and Tanner Rininger; Chris (Jessica) Risling, Kate Risling (Eric Rude), Jason (Sarah) Meusburger; Tyler (Shelley) Meusburger; great grandchildren: Avery, Cole, and Adelyn Rininger; Maya Risling; Kaleb Rude; Gabriel, Ellie, and Samuel Meusburger; sister, Mary Carpenter; brother-in-law, Jerry (Mardelle) Helmke; sister-in-law, Janice Basler; extended family and friends.

Oren was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gretchen; brothers: Eugene (June) Rininger, Welden, and Donald; sisters-in-law: Kathryn Duffy, LaVonne Peer, LaVonne Helmke; brothers-in-law: Gary Basler, Corwin Peer, Jim Duffy, and Norman Helmke.
