Lowell Paul Hornor was born at the Eber Hornor farm home west of Fonda, Iowa and went to his heavenly home on June 27, 2013 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with his family at his side. Lowell reached the age of 95 years 8 months. Lowell graduated from Fonda Public High School. He was united in marriage to Dorothea Ogden on May 18, 1941 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, IA. In 1942, Lowell enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in San Francisco, CA. Upon discharge in 1945, he returned to Fonda and life on the Hornor Dairy Farm. He, Dorothea and daughters Jill and Judy left the Hornor farm in 1958 to farm near Pomeroy, IA. Son Paul was born one day after the move. Lowell quit farming in the late 19˜60s and he and Dorothea and Paul moved to Vincent, IA to manage the Feed Mill for the Farmers Elevator. He later managed the Goldfield Feed Mill and, after a few years, moved to an acreage outside Albert City, IA, continuing to work at farm related jobs until 2001 when they moved to Storm Lake.

Lowell attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Fonda most of his life and served as a Trustee. He served on the Fonda School Board and was a 50 years Mason. He loved raising horses and rode from boyhood, and enjoyed going to the horse races at local fairs. Lowell and Dorothea loved ballroom dancing. Lowell's parents, Eber and Agnes, one sister, Erma Murray, and two brothers, Lucien and Virgil, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Dorothea, and son Paul (Sue Burke) of Storm Lake, IA, daughter Jill Duden of Pleasant Hill, IA and her children John of West Des Moines, IA and Jenna (Jeffrey) Buzzard and son Benjamin of Seattle, WA, daughter Judy (Dean) Hayes of Bellevue, NE and their children Alan (Whitney) and daughters Presley and Harper of Omaha and Angela (Brad) Wilhelm and son Joshua of Wichita, KS.
