Helen DeSart, 99 years and 6 months, died Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lake City with Father Lynn Bruch celebrating and burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lake City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lake City.
Helen Marguerite DeSart was born on February 10, 1920, in Renwick, Iowa, to Louis and Theresa (Friedrich) Schaller. She graduated from Kanawha & Corwith High School in 1936 and then attended Cosmetology College in Ft. Dodge graduating in 1940. On September 13, 1942, she married Harold Ralph (Pete) DeSart in Rolla, Missouri. Helen moved to Lake City in March 1941 and worked in local beauty shops until opening up her own beauty salon where she worked until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #31, the Shakespeare Club (past president), St. Theresa Sodality (past president) and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lake City.
Helen is survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Pete in 1975; sons Jim and Ron DeSart; and daughter Michele Arganbright.
