George Michael Kelling was born on September 4, 1951, the son of George and Barbara Darland Kelling at Fort Dodge. He attended schools in Eagle Grove and Cypress, Calif. Upon completion of his education, he worked five years for Kraft Foods at Buena Park, Calif., before returning to Eagle Grove in 1980.

Michael was united in marriage to Barbara Hodgell of Gilmore City, on March 2, 1985, at Webster City.

Michael Kelling lost his life in a drowning accident on the Des Moines River near Humboldt, on Sunday, August 26, 1990, at the age of 38 years, 11 months, and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Gilmore City; his son, Brian Hodgell, and daughter, Natalie Kelling, both at home; his mother, Barbara Crose, Moreno Valley, Calif.; one brother, Rodney, Jefferson, S.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Blair (Vicki) Taylor, and Mrs. Tracy (Cynthia) Goins, both of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandmothers, Ruth Kelling, Dows; and Margaret Darland, Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. September 1, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Douglas Haugen officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
