Dorothy Amanda Christensen Walters
14 August 1896 --- 10 May 1983

Mrs. Dorothy Amanda Walters, the daughter of Andrew and Johanna Nelson Christensen, was born at Eagle Grove, Iowa on August 14, 1896. She grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School. Later she attended the Pestatlozzi-Frobel Kindergarten College in Chicago and then taught at the Jane Adams Hull House in Chicago and then at Eagle Grove Community Schools. On April 6, 1920, she was united in marriage with Raymond (Punk) Walters at Eagle Grove. They lived in Eagle Grove for a short time and then moved to Tulsa, Okla., where they lived for 45 years. Mr. Walters died in 1965. In 1968, Dorothy moved to Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. While living in Tulsa, Raymond and Dorothy traveled extensively and she was an active member and past-president of the Tulsa Antique Glass Collectors Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge; a life-member of the Order of the Eastern Star and past member of the Creative Writing Club at Friendship Haven.

She died on Tuesday morning, May 10, 1983 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 86 years, eight months and 26 days. She is survived by three sisters: Jean, Mrs. Vernon Spellmeyer, rural Eagle Grove; Lillian, Mrs. DeLisle Brady, Nashua, Iowa; and Mrs. Clara Brown, Tujunga, Calif; three nephews: Robert Walters, San Clemente, Calif, Richard Walters, Wauby, S.D., Michael Walters, Boone, Iowa, five nieces: Mrs. Beverly McIntyre, Hoffman Estates, Ill., Mrs. Janet Ovel, Fort Dodge, Mrs. Mildred Tacker, La Crescenta, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Anne Bredenberg, Anoka, Minn.; Sharon Walters, Glendale, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy A. Walters were held on Thursday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m in the chapel of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Don Callen, church pastor, and Dr. Clarence Tompkins of Fort Dodge officiated at the service. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home
was in charge of the arrangements.
