Obituary of Henry Berkland
The funeral of Henry Berkland was held from the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn officiating. Duets were sung by Mrs. Fannie Cotton and Mrs. Vina Hall with Mrs. Gail Berry accompanist. Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery.

Henry Berkland, the son of Andrew and Martha Lear Berkland, was born at Haugesund, Norway, January 12, 1881, and passed away at Jewell, Iowa, Sunday evening, January 15, 1939, at 6:00 o'clock, his age being at the time of his death, 57 years, 11 months and 3 days. In 1884, the family came from Norway to Story City, Iowa. Ten years later they moved to Eagle Grove. Henry was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Norway. He was confirmed June 10, 1895, at Eagle Grove under the pastorate of Rev. H. C. Holm.

He was an interior decorator and contractor by trade. He had had no other permanent home but Eagle Grove for many years. When in town he lived at the home of his niece, Mrs. Olive Orr.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Berkland of Des Moines, two sons, Raymond of New York City and James of Des Moines; two brothers, Andrew of Thor and Goodman, who lives in the East, and several nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Hans Severine and Richard, had preceded him in death.
